Since a young child John had always dreamed of fishing Lac De Saint Cassien, having seen the occasional huge fish show up in the Angling Times. In September 2016, just as the summer was ending, it was finally going to become reality.

With 11 days of fishing in front of him, and the only priority being big carp in off-the-radar settings, Jim Shelley is in his element! First stop is Germany, where he tackles a river and a lake, before taking Operation Freedom on tour to Belgium, in search of a canal whacker.

Jim set his sights on catching carp from the mighty River Lot and banked a string of fish, topped by a true river giant. With a mission accomplished, Jim rounds off his trip with a session at the atmospheric Lac Soupir!

In November 2013, John returned to the Alps area to fish the small lakes of the lower valleys.

John returns to a huge gravel pit, where he'd been lucky enough to catch a number of very old “original” carp to over 62lb. Very little was documented on the lake but he'd had tracked down photos of a small number of huge carp that he just couldn’t stop thinking about.
