Episode #017 | February 2019

Duration: 2h 23min

Boy have we got some variety in this chunk of an episode!

Let’s start with an hour-long beast of an interview with the legend that is Dave Lane. We travelled to his Suffolk home to lift the January gloom with talk of everything from the golden age of Wraysbury, to ‘creative interpretation’ of the rules, and we hope that it’ll light the fires for you too!

The Laney interview included, we seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in carp angler’s kitchens, garages and carp-caves, and this month is no exception, as Darrell Peck shows us how to make, and get the best from his now-infamous Banoffee Wafters for our new, Food for Thought section. We got the back-story, the tips and tricks to make them just like him, and the benefit of his experience using them for some of the biggest carp in the UK, and the World even! Expect to see a few folk using these in the spring.

We reluctantly left the warmth of Darrell’s kitchen to record an on-the-bank interview with man-of-the-moment, Steve Renyard. As comebacks go, they don’t get any more dramatic than the way Steve re-emerged after some time away, banking an astonishing run of thirties and forties during October, November and December. As you’d imagine, we had quite a few questions for the man in form, and he answered in his own inimitable fashion!

Now, we get a lot of feedback on our episodes, most of it positive, thankfully, and one recurring theme included Elliott’s signature rig – you know it; the one he uses pretty much everywhere. It seems that lots of you want to know exactly how to tie it, so we headed to a special little water that Elliott actually tested the rig on, to show you how to tie it, and how to get the best from what is a devastating little number! (Expect more like this in our new, Tied & Tested series.)

If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also got the strangest thing that Dave Levy’s seen on the bank (hint: it involves a fish that looks like it’s dead), Scott Lloyd’s best blag (it’s brutal), the time Jon McAllister thought he was going to be assaulted by a weirdo, Mark Bryant’s crafty natural-food watercraft trick, Joe Morgan’s game-changer and the loss that still haunts Martin Pick. (Breathe…) Finally, Elliott reviews some top-notch buzz bars from the impressive JAG Products!
